Friday Afternoons 2016 Resources Now Available In Charanga.

fa-2016-for-blogFriday Afternoons is delighted that Charanga has produced interactive resources for six of this year’s new set of Friday Afternoons songs, composed by Jonathan Dove and Alasdair Middleton.

The six songs are part of a larger set of 12 songs written this year specifically for children’s voices. Charanga’s award-winning material is available for: Three Birds, Little Girl of Rain, Laura, Fast Car, This Is The Bird, and Snow. For each of these songs, the resources allow students to learn about the composer, explore their own reactions to the music through listening and appraising exercises, learn to sing the song verse-by-verse, and finally perform the song using helpful lyric highlighting and automated page turns.

What is Friday Afternoons?

Inspired by Benjamin Britten, Friday Afternoons is an initiative created by Aldeburgh Music to open up a world of singing for children and young people. Every year Aldeburgh Music commissions a new set of songs for young people’s voices, and these are all made available for free as part of the Friday Afternoons Song Bank. Since the project started in 2013 the team at Charanga has produced excellent resources for both specialist and non-specialist primary school teachers, to explore the repertoire and learn the songs with their classes.

The resources from all previous years are still available through the Charanga website, inside Charanga’s Musical School and Music Professional programmes and the Friday Afternoons websites.
