Charanga VIP Studio Sessions Wins Major Award

We are delighted to announce that VIP Studio Sessions has won Best Digital/Technological resource at the 2018 Music Teacher Awards, sponsored by Rhinegold Publishing.

VIP, an online music education platform for secondary schools, was singled out from a strong field due to the “quality of tutorials” showing a focus on not just software as a tool but the constellation of cloud-based educational resources around it which allow students to engage and create the kind of music which excites and engages them.

Also a finalist for Best Musical Initiative (alongside Essex Music Hub) with Grown: A Grime Opera, VIP Author Max Wheeler said:

“It’s a real honour to be chosen for this award, especially this year with such a strong field. We have been working hard on VIP for some years now and really I think a lot of credit has to go to the Music Hubs we have partnered with, and the teachers and students using it for pushing us to make something really current and fresh! The judging panel included Diane Widdison of the Musicians’ Union; Don Gilthorpe, director of music at 2017 award winner Ripley St Thomas CE Academy; Matt Yeoman, performing arts and drama teacher at Queen’s Park High School, Chester; Onur Orkut, lecturer in acting at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts; and Sarah Lambie, editor of Teaching Drama magazine.

The editor of Music Teacher magazine, Alex Stevens, chair of the awards judging panel said:

“Year by year, brilliant teachers and educators work tirelessly to bring the life-enhancing opportunity of learning music to children, young people and adults in all walks of life. Music education may find itself under pressure, but it is reassuring to see that the sector is still coming up with inspiring ideas, useful initiatives and, of course, fantastic teaching.”
