Reception – Autumn 2: The latest addition to the Musical School Scheme

Autumn 2 addition to Musical School Scheme

Charanga’s new Scheme for the National Curriculum now boasts week by week resources for Reception year. Autumn 1 was launched last term and we are happy to announce that Autumn 2 went live on Monday 3rd November.

Reception roll-out

The team at Charanga are now busy working on Spring 1 term to be delivered in time for Christmas and our aim for this year of learning is to gradually prepare the children for Key Stage 1 whilst still being mindful of the areas of learning for EYFS.

Supporting teachers and pupils

This half-termly (6-step) approach supports teachers in engaging all young children with music. It includes a variety of adult-led and child-initiated activities delivered through planning and play. All the musical learning is focused around nursery rhymes and action songs.

Themes

The year begins with a half term focus on ‘Me!’ and is followed by ‘My Stories’ inspiring imaginative play and learning. The spring term will centre on ‘Everyone’ and ‘Our World’ encouraging the children to make links with those around them and to begin to think more creatively. To finish the Reception year we introduce a transition Unit based on the same methodology as the Key Stage 1 resources and the chance to consolidate and celebrate learning.

Again, it includes a variety of adult-led and child-initiated activities delivered through planning and play and all the musical learning is focused around nursery rhymes and action songs.

Units of Work

Each Unit of Work is supported by weekly lesson plans and assessment and has a cross-curricular/topic-based focus and a musical focus that will allow teachers to engage their children in activities related to the developmental events taking place in their changing lives.

The Units of Work in Terms 1 and 2 are more flexible allowing for child-led activities based around the focus for learning. In Term 3, Big Bear Funk transitions from being focus based to preparing for Year 1. The final Unit for the year Reflect, Rewind and Replay consolidates the year’s learning.

Nursery Rhymes

We believe it is vital for young children to learn nursery rhymes, and so we have taken a great deal of care with the quality of our new and exciting backing tracks which cover all styles of music.
